Of course you can cut and paste to and from Messenger, but I understand that the solution is not that obvious, it took me a while to get the hang of it. You can cut from a terminal by selecting with the mouse and hit Ctrl+c then you can paste into Messenger with the middle mouse button, same method applies to kedit, gedit, emacs, StarOffice...bla, bla...:-)
