Read to SOUND HOW-TO. If you used the SUSE graphical kernel configuration utility, you will also have to specify other options. I can't remember them off the top of my head, but it's all in the HOW-TO. <<Tony>>

I have a genuine soundblaster 16. When trying to recompile the kernal for sound it says "Error, you will need to configure the soundcard with SOUND_CONFIGURATION option. What gives? After error no zImage file shows up and I am afraid to go on from here. Thanks for all the help.
