Into the last week i have some problems with a new upgraded system. That system is worked well for 1 week, then the last weekend it locked up. It is alive, terminal switching is working but if i write into the login and press enter, it locks up. From the external, the machine answers to the ping, but any service is present (syn-synack done), but no response (connection hangs).
I am now thinking can be a problem of the new kernel, but i am not sure. Can be also an hardware problem, i dunno... For that cause i need an external opinion... What i can do to debug this?
I'm afraid I can't help you but I have also experienced this (or a very similar) problem 2 or 3 times since 11.4 came out. In my case I just used KDE programs when X locked up. I don't remember whether I could still move the mouse pointer around but clicking definitely did not work and neither did the keyboard - except I could switch to another terminal with Ctrl-Alt-F1. There I could enter a login name but a password prompt did not appear. Ping worked, sshd did not respond. After a while I was not able to switch to a different terminal either. I had to reboot with a SysRq sequence. I only got this far. As I said, this occurs very rarely so I have no idea how to trigger or debug the problem. I have the same kernel version as you, my PC is a custom built one. Tom -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
