On firewall-config, open services mDNS and slp on the services tab. But also open port 5353/udp on source ports. The last one did the trick for discovery.
On yaST, hplip, Use advanced, then change discovery method to not the default SLP, but avahi or bonjour.
I find it simpler to hp-setup from hplip and plug in the ip addr. It just works. and I do not recall ever having to open/close/... any ports, using hp-setup.
I was using hp-setup, actually: YaST calls it. And I did not know the printer address.
but you do know how to obtain it...
Yes. I worked on getting hp-setup to work, doing what I said on the OP to the firewall, which I managed to do faster than nmap finished :-)
there are many tools. and there is the graphical display on the printer which is nearly instantaneous.
If you are familiar with the printer, and it is at a distance from me. I don't want to leave the sofa. :-P I have an HP B/W printer at home with no display. Instead, there is a combination of button presses that print it. To now which, you have to read the manual. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from openSUSE 15.5 (Laicolasse))
