Did you do an online update after installing 10.3? How recently?
I did a full update on the install which was done on 11 January. No updates have been applied since then.
been discussion on the list over the last couple of days concerning the latest x.org update that has broken a number of applications that rely on glx.
I read a bit of that thread series, but didn't get into details on it... Thanks for reminding me of it. I'll have a read through that info.
The 'greying out' of the application is 10.3's way of telling you that the application has stopped responding.
OK, that's new to me. I wasn't aware of that feature in 10.3. I can see it working nice for a single application, but this happens to the whole desktop... everything on the desktop generally still works (except where MPlayer is drawn), and the screen is not returned to normal even after MPlayer is killed off.
Are you using the OSS nvidia drivers or the proprietary ones? Did you install from the openSUSE rpms or install the drivers from the nvidia site?
I am using the proprietary nVidia drivers. I installed them using the 1-Click link from the opensuse.org site.... which worked great by the way (to install the drivers)... so I assume that is the openSUSE RPMs. Maybe I should rip them out and use the ones downloaded from nVidia direct. I didn't think there would be a difference... ie I assumed that the 1-Click installed RPMs would be the same... shouldn't assume.. I know. C.
I've always had better results downloading and installing the drivers from the nivdia site because I can then control the build options and make sure that the drivers are built against the libraries/headers that are installed on my machine.
Incidentally, after the latest x.org and kdelibs updates I had to rebuild the drivers because the x server refused to start; actually, it started but then continually crashed and restarted. Reinstalling the drivers (from nvidia) fixed it. Might be worth a try.
