I guess this is because of that new systems does not have an xorg.conf file since they are clever enough to find out what resolution the user needs. If you start sax2 in a terminal window you should be able to configure the screen according to your needs and sax2 creates and saves an xorg.conf file, I think. After this X should use the settings defined in the xorg.conf file. Please write if this helps or not.
