In the time of sax, I would have no problem changing the settings of a monotor. Alas, sax is not more. As my normal 17 " monitor is under repair, I got a 15 " monitor to keep my machine running. Thismonitor, a Compaq S5500 should run native 1024x768at 60Hz. Vert.RR 54Hz. I plugged the monitor in and ended up with 640x480 and as the monitor reports H:31.4K and V:60Hz which is to course for normal use. Where and how could I change the monitor settings?
Have you tried sax3 which is part of 12.2 and 12.3. It was Manu Gupta's GSoC 2011 project and was released at the start of 2012? It has gotten few bug reports that I know of and I've had no need to use it so I can't say how well it works. http://software.opensuse.org/package/sax3 or zypper in sax3.
