Because immediately after getting 7.1, 7.2 came out, I skipped 7.2, however, I went out to SuSE site to order (or preorder) 7.3 and noticed it had a upgrade product. Great! Even greater for SuSE personal users, but I'm a SuSE pro man myself. Anyway... I looked at he product listing and it stated that it was for 7.2 users who didn't want the full product. So of course that confused me (something this is easier than others) and now I have to ask.
It has been my process that an upgrade means doing a new install. So with the 7.3 Upgrade am I covered? Will it accept my 7.1 ownership as compatible with the upgrade policy?
Am I silly (paranoid and for good reason) and should I just do an upgrade to the current 7.1 system. So with 7.3 Upgrade am I covered?
With regard to the media, the upgrade product is the same as the SuSE Professional product. You can opt for either a clean install or upgrade the exisitng installation. Unlike Microsoft the software does not check for a previous version to see if you are entitled to upgrade. So I can't forsee any significant problems doing an upgrade from 7.1 to 7.3. However, I must add that I've always done a clean install in the past (I just kept my /home directories). This time round I'm likely to upgrade since I don't want to spend ages reconfiguring everything - I generally only use the SuSE updates and patches, e.g. I'm still using KDE 2.1.2.
