Glenn, Windowmaker compiled "out of the box" with no tweaking at all, Enlightenment I am not sure on, I don't think I needed to modify anything, I will check tonight (I only have an internet/email connection here at work where we run Solaris, not Linux). Regarding the .xinitrc, Windowmaker creates it's own and backs up your old one in the process (when you run the WMaker.inst command). It is only a few lines long so I included it in the standard SuSE .xinitrc in $HOME and put an if...then...else loop so it checks if $WINDOWMANAGER is set to wmaker and if true it runs the windowmaker specific commands, if false it runs the windowmanager defined by $WINDOWMANAGER as usual. This way you can still choose your windowmanager by setting $WINDOWMANAGER in your .bashrc. I will send you a copy of this tomorrow. There are some very nice little applications written for windowmaker, and/or afterstep, these include a selection of cd players (wmcd, ascd and wmrack), a couple of system load monitors (wmload and wmavgload), a sound mixer (wmmixer) and a file syatem mounting tool (wmmount) and modem control tool (wmmodem). These all run as cute little icons on the "dock" with miniature control buttons, they are great toys and also very practical. If you want to see how they look and how to set them up just ask and I'll sent you a screen shot directly. Ihope all this is usefull, Regards, Matt misc.word.corp@pobox.com wrote:
Matt,
Thanks for the info and great links.
When you installed Enlightenment and WindowMaker on your S.u.S.E. box, did you need to tweak anything to get the source to compile? Any problems with dependencies (apart from Imlib, in the case of Enlightenment) and/or libraries? Did you need to make any symbolic links?
Also, did you write an .xinitrc script to run these window managers, or modify .bashrc?
Thanks in advance. I also like to vary my GUI as much as possible (keeps the cobwebs from invading my brain) and appreciate your advice.
