Apologies to James I sent the reply directly to him, but it may be of interest to others David On Mon, 2002-07-01 at 09:51, James.Rocks@equant.com wrote:
Hi,
I am using SuSE 8 which works fine on my own workstation but locks up early in the install process on a Proliant 5000 ... it's a dual P200 (pro I think) with 512Mb memory and a couple of SCSI disk arrays (thinking of making it 1 array with 4, 5 if I can figure how to swap the enclosure, 9GB HD's in a RAID 5 array). I'm using the Pro edition, not server, which I can't afford (particularly since the machine is at home) :-)
Any ideas?
Thanks

Try using the LILO option mem=512M at the LILO prompt from the install CD, I have found that certainly on Proliant 2500's it fails to correctly ascertain the correct size and assumes you have only 16MB of RAM, I did get it to install but it was painful and took all day!!. With the correct memory size it runs quite well and found the Smart Array Controller. You should first of all configure the array from the SmartStart CD, and then install the Compaq diagnostics partition, this is optional, but recommended. Hope that helps. David Bottrill
