Steve, I have a Canon N670U USB scanner and I played with it over the weekend to make it work with my SuSE 8.0 box and it was a successful attempt. I found the SANE home page very useful and that is how I finally got it to work. Before that, I needed to tweak a couple of things in SuSE first. A quick question: if you go to your KDE Control Center -> Information -> USB, do you see your USB devices, and if so, do you see your scanner? Let me know if your USB ports do not show up there. Also try sane-find-scanner at the command line.
This is the info .... sane-find-scanner: found USB scanner (vendor = 0x04a5, product = 0x207e) at device /dev/usb/scanner0 sane-find-scanner: found USB scanner (vendor = 0x04a5, product = 0x207e) at device /dev/usbscanner It is also detected in KDE controlcentre. Steve.

If so could you share how you managed to acheive this.
