Along the same lines, I attended a meeting where the presentor was talking about Red Hat's kickstart. Essentially, you make a kickstart diskette (or CD for that matter) with configuration information. (I'm simplifying a bit) If the remote system boots the diskette, it would initiate a network install. The bottom line is to have a way that you can remotely initiate an install/upgrade procedure non-interactively. If you are talking about a few servers, there is no real issue, but in a business where you might have hundreds of desktop machines. On 25 Mar 2002 at 1:59, JW wrote:

My only concern is to the ability to use the ftp site as a valid update/installation source. Yast did this exceptionally well, however I have not yet figured out: 1.) If Yast2 can do it!? 2.) If #1 == TRUE then HOW??!! :)
This is pretty much my only concern for 8.0! (not that it would stop me from getting it... ;)
Same here. On servers 100 miles away it's not very practical to use the installation CDs!
