By the way: after upgrading openSUSE 13.1 to 13.2 I found, that the support for /etc/sysconfig/network/providers/ DSL configurations (manually created or via YaST -> Network Devices -> DSL) is gone. I have no running openSUSE 13.1 system anymore and could not test /etc/sysconfig/network/providers/ configurations anymore, see https://wiki.archlinux.de/title/PPPoE_mit_pppd The Arch Linux page https://wiki.archlinux.de/title/PPPoE_mit_pppd shows configurations with the pppd "persist" option. These configurations can be used to manually start DSL connections also on openSUSE 13.2. Bjoern Voigt wrote:
I should test all the discussed options. By the way, what is a good way to avoid network packets which bring up the PPP connection on-demand for testing "persist" options? (My idea is to write a firewall rule, which blocks all traffic from LAN to dsl0 device. Another option can be the "active-filter" expressions in pppd. "Closing all network programs" is probably not the best option, because there are too much programs and libraries which use the network.)
