Yes, KDE4 got off to a bad start by 'releasing' what was really an pre-alpha. Well it was one way to do the end-user acceptance and guidance that some of the early "Agile' practitioners tried for ... point, shoot, aim ... release early ... but the 'release often' was in terms of weeks not hours.
Now we have a KDE4 that I feel exceed that I had with KDE3. Or put it another way; I wouldn't want to go back to KDE3.
I came to Linux at the time when KDE3 was awesome. I wasn't here for the early days but I heard some horror stories. Seems that KDE3 upset a LOT of people in those early days. Kind of like what happened when KDE4 was dumped. A year or two goes by and now I'm very happy with KDE4, with one or two exceptions which have nothing to do with KDE4 itself. [ other software that didn't keep up ] Now we have Plasma5 (?) and here we go again. There have been some changes and some maybe not the way I like them. But, no one asked me my opinion so A adapt and learn how to use it again. Okular sucks? Well, for me it seems to work great. In fact I load KDE for Windows on my Wndows computer just so I can have Okular and some other bits, like Dolphin. In my opinion Okular is head and shoulders above Acrobat. Just sucks big time that KDE for Windows is no longer being kept up. -- A cat is a puzzle with no solution. Cats are tiny little women in fur coats.
