Exactly. It was supposed to spare us all getting a lame server. Said so in the writeups about it. It was also supposed to support Geo-location for picking close mirrors, which is a pointless exercise. We are internet-close to everywhere. We need mirror brain to use two criteria: Fast delivery and Up-to-date. Nothing else matters. Ping time doesn't matter.
