David, Your video device seems to be a problem. There's a couple of things you could try to get rid of this: 1) You probably run /usr/doc/packages/bttv/tools/update as root user.... If you try to run kwintv as a normal user (david), you may not be able to access the proper video device. You should have something like this for _any_ of your video devices to be used by your tv tuner: crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 81, 0 Aug 8 01:02 video0 2) If the problem's still there, check out the config files of kwintv... there should be a place to specify the video device to be used.... I use /dev/video, and I then linked /dev/video to /dev/video1, because my /dev/video0 is used by my webcam... (ln -s /dev/video1 /dev/video ): lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Aug 11 15:09 video -> video1 3) You can use xawtv, which I think is the best TV Tuner app. ... I have tried several over the months, and I would suggest you xawtv. With xawtv, you can run it on a link like mine and there's no problem about that. I have the WinTV model 401, by Hauppauge, which is the TV/Radio tuner with the remote control. Here are my modules.conf's lines, if that can be of any help for you: # bttv alias char-major-81 videodev alias char-major-81-0 bttv options bttv card=10 radio=1 options tuner=5 debug=1 # make alsa + msp3400 play nicely options snd-card-ens snd_index=0 options msp3400 mixer=1 post-install bttv insmod msp3400 # lirc alias char-major-61 lirc_dev post-install lirc_dev insmod lirc_haup Hope this helps...
