It seems you are right, there is no way to setup the default gateway once the system is installed, you have to edit /etc/route.conf to do this. Perhaps we should work on this.... :)
It should look like this:
# /etc/route.conf # local IP netmask interface 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 eth0
# default gw default 192.168.0.1
Then run
/sbin/init.d/route stop ; /sbin/init.d/route start
and everything should be fine...
[...] How about an interface to "/etc/defaultrouter" al la Sun? Easy to use, quick, hard to beat!
Not a bad idea, but I don't think we really need it. route.conf is easy to handle to (once you get used to it...), and it holds all the routing info in one file. I don't like the idea to split up everything in several files...
