Until about 10 years ago, I used to see a lot of problems with resource shortages, but these days I don't hear much about it.
Even then, I think that Calros has too many resource-related problems.
Could you post the result of "ulimit -a", please? Preferably on a recently installed machine, to compare with mine. er@Telcontar:~> ulimit -a core file size (blocks, -c) unlimited data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited scheduling priority (-e) 0 file size (blocks, -f) unlimited pending signals (-i) 128109 max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64 max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited open files (-n) 2048 pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8 POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200 real-time priority (-r) 0 stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192 cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited max user processes (-u) 4096 virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited file locks (-x) unlimited cer@Telcontar:~> For example, on another machine, user processes limit is 31161.
I'm using Vivaldi and have 11 frequently visited sites pasted into tags that I can open immediately, with each tag consuming a reasonable amount of resources, but I haven't had any problems as Carlos.
I would think that there might be a problem with Calros' hardware (e.g. low memory), but his machine is, as I recall, not much older than the day he bought it......
This machine has 32 gigs. But few people do: firefox -P1 One & firefox -P1 Two & firefox -P1 Three & firefox -P1 Four & Right now, Thunderbird has become unresponsive as I was typing on two replies on this thread. I'm copying the text by hand on Alpine. It can not be a limit this time, it may be something related to the new TH version. Unstable. I'm considering a reboot. Huh, now the three windows of TH are black, totally non responsive. I started it again, and it did it again in the middle of sending email, within a minute of being started. And no, there is no FF running. I think the email was sent - huh, th came back now. One full minute in black. And it is very unresponsive. Yep, going to reboot, but I'll do an update first. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
