I am really desperate at this point. I need to use X11 4.0.2 since my new laptop has the Ati Rage Mobility 128. I downloaded the 4.0.2 RPMs from SuSE's ftp site and installed them according to the instructions. SAX2 does not work (I tried) so I configured X11 with xf86config. The problem is that when I run startx, X11 3.3.6 starts instead of 4.0.2 (in 16 color 640x480, oh my, Win2K looks so much better with 1600x1200 8(
What do I have to do to start 4.0.2 instead of 3.3.6?
BTW, is there anyone with an IBM Thinkpad A with the ATI Rage 128 Mobility that got it working properly?
I had a problem setting up the XFree4 that was on the SuSE CDs on a friend's box. I can't help with configuring for you specific graphics chip (although I do think it's well supported) but a lot of my problems stemmed from how to start X up. I *think* in the end we found that in XFree4, the equivalent of xinit was a program called XFree86. We changed this in the startx script and we got XFree4 when we typed startx. I could be way off here, but it's a start... Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\
