Hi, We have a couple of dual Athlon systems here: Tyan Thunder K7 w/2GB RAM and 3Ware 7410 controller (which serves up 2GB of swap). The person who purchased and set them up has them running off of the stock 2.4.10-64GB-SMP kernel, and things are running OK, but not as well as I would expect. How appropriate is this kernel in reality? I have tried to config & build my own more finely tuned (and set specifically for Athlon and SMP) kernel, but I have had poor results, the problems centering around getting the 3ware controller functioning properly. As a disclaimer, these are my first attempts ever at building a kernel under Linux (I have successfully built hundreds under FreeBSD in a past life). If anyone has any experience with similar systems, perhaps some functional sample kernel configs they would be willing to share, or other random tips they would be most appreciated. Thanks. -Jonathan -- Jonathan Delgado, Systems Manager Department of Molecular Biology: Bioinformatics Group & DNA Core Massachusetts General Hospital
