Hi all, After a reinstall last week of SuSE 8.0 i am experiencing a strange problem : I am using nVIDIA RIVA TNT graphics card. I installed 2 rpms files in the previous installation which i downloaded from nVIDIA homepage for my distribution. These 2 rpms are drivers for the card. I was using them for 5 months and all where great (except that x were slow starting up). So i tried installing them in this reinstall. When i checked if they were installed correctly i found out that something went wrong: # rpm -q NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960.suse80.i386.rpm package NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960.suse80.i386.rpm is not installed # rpm -q NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960.suse80.i386.rpm package NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960.suse80.i386.rpm is not installed Hmmm ... not installed. So i tried reinstalling by executing the command rpm -Uhv. # rpm -Uhv NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960.suse80.i386.rpm package NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960 is already installed # rpm -Uhv NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960.suse80.i386.rpm package NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960 is already installed Now i got all confused. What's happening here? SAX2 gives me errors when i try to configure x. I am sure that nvidia drivers are not installed correctly. I tried downloading again the driver rpms and do the installation from the beginning. No success. I get the same messages. Also noticed that KDE3 after the reinstall is very slow (has to do with 3d acceleration missing? I dont think so but i would like to mention this) Another thing that annoys me is that i cant use xv as my vo driver using mplayer so i use x11 which is very slow on my machine. When i used the nVIDIA drivers all worked fine with giving the parameter -vo xv with mplayer. Thank you for reading my message.
