Java is so sad. It's a wonderful idea, write-one-run-anywhere but it's not even backwards compatible! Not in my end-user experience anyway.
I have to agree. IBM recommend the Blackdown JDK for Via Voice. As opposed to, for example, their own! I used to work at the IBM labs at Hursley, England (and will be back there in a month) where they produce both Via Voice and the IBM JDK. I asked on the internal net system why the two products where incompatible. I didn't get a conclusive answer, but I think I touched a bit of a nerve!
Anyway.... if anyone's got it working I'd like to hear what you had to do to get it that way. Any any other speech related stuff - I couldn't get festival to compile either.
I got Via Voice to work perfectly on 6.4 with a bog standard SB16. Sadly 'perfectly' means 'as well as it does work, but 90% ain't good enough for me'! I deleted it shortly afterwards.
