8.1 artsd dying with cpu overload - help!

Hi, I've just installed 8.1 on my workstation (at last - been using 7.3 for ages now) and I have a problem with artsd blowing up with the error message: "cpu overload". The system hangs for a few seconds and then the artsd process dies and fires up a knotify box with the error. This appears to occur randomly but when running yast through kcontrol it does it every time. My (relevant) hardware is :- compaq ap230 (intel i815em) M-Audio Audiophile/Delta AP2496 ide dma = on (all devices) artsd full duplex = off acpi = off running suse 8.1 pro Any ideas as this is the only problem I've actually had so far?
