The best solution is a proper configuration of mutt (hard & satisfaction way). The easiest and complete is using the messenger of Netscape under GNOME or KDE, or kmessage of KDE. A middleway is download mail with fetchmail (easy shell flexible utility) and read and work on you letters with pine (mail client in the shell with easy menus). Bye
