I don't think it matters which dvd drive you buy because they don't need OS specific drivers. They work by plugging them into the hard disk ide cable but I'd recommend getting a dual layer burner if only to make a backup of your SuSE dvd.
I can't understand why Plextor would have that attitude. Surely they too want to shift dvd drives and make money in the hardware market don't they? If someone provides a driver free of charge for systems which are not available out of the box then that to my mind is free advertising and encourages sales.
Steve.
Not really applicable to this thread but related nonetheless. I burned a copy of the 9.3 DVD in another PC. It burned lovely, dual layer not a problem. Until I tried to read it in the Linux tin. It wouldn't have it. Yet, it reads the original 9.3 DVD without any problem. I have not yet checked the dual layer home burned DVD with Linux in the first PC (used to burn the disk) as it's normally Win tin. I do have a disk with Linux on it though so I shall check to ensure it's not a Linux issue. I very much doubt it. -- Take care. Kevan Farmer 34 Hill Street Cheslyn Hay Staffordshire WS6 7HR
