Troubleshooting sound

As I was listening to some tunes with Amarok, all of a sudden, the sound just stops working. I have tried running alsaconf as I did in the beginning to get the sound card working, but no help. Can someone give me some pointers on how to troubleshoot this dilemma? Perhaps a good doc? Thanks in advance! -- Robert
