I can ping the printer and I understand that the NetJet has a built in LPD server.
Here is my non-working /etc/pintcap :-

I am not confident about the 'lp=' entry, should this work? The log file only reinforces my doubts :-

From the above I would conclude that you're missing the lp: entry in your printcap file. As an example, here's what my printcap file used to be (before I switched to 8.1): printer_raw:\ :cm=lpdfilter method=raw color=yes:\ :lp=LaserJet4@LASERJET4PLUS.huizen.nl:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/printer_raw:\ :lf=/var/spool/lpd/printer_raw/log:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/printer_raw/acct:\ :ar:force_localhost@:\ :tr=:cl:sh: lp:\ :cm=lpdfilter drv=upp method=auto color=yes redirect=printer_raw:\ :lp=/dev/null:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\ :lf=/var/spool/lpd/lp/log:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/lp/acct:\ :if=/usr/lib/lpdfilter/bin/if:\ :la@:\ :tr=:cl:sh: Having said that, after upgrading to 8.1, I found out I had to re-install the printer, using Yast2. Now my printcap file simply is: # This file was automatically generated by cupsd(1m) from the # /etc/cups/printers.conf file. All changes to this file # will be lost. laserjet4: And to make this mail complete (and longer still), here's my /etc/cups/printers.conf file: # Printer configuration file for CUPS v1.1.15 # Written by cupsd on Sat 04 Jan 2003 12:59:04 PM GMT <DefaultPrinter laserjet4> Info LaserJet4Plus network printer DeviceURI socket://laserjet4plus:9100 State Idle Accepting Yes JobSheets none none QuotaPeriod 0 PageLimit 0 KLimit 0 </Printer> All these files have been created with YaST2. The hostname of my printer is laserjet4plus. In stead of that, you can also use the IP number, as you have done. I'm not a printcap or cups wizzard, I used YaST2 to configure this printer. Just do that too. Good luck. Paul.
