Hi there, I bumped into a stupid problem. I can't make SuSE 9.0 system recognize modem on a serial port. I can use this same serial port with a null-modem cable as a terminal for an Ultra5 box successfully. I can use this same serial port to sync my Palm. When I connect a modem (tried both USR 56k and Hayes Accura 56k) whith a straight cable, I got no response in minicom from the modem. Lights on the modem are very strange too. SD and RD are on all the time and minicom considers connection to be online. On hangup (Ctrl-A H) lights blink and then no response again. ATZ (or any other input) returns nothing. This is what statserial reports: Device: /dev/ttyS0 Signal Pin Pin Direction Status Full Name (25) (9) (computer) Name ----- --- --- --------- ------ ----- FG 1 - - - Frame Ground TxD 2 3 out - Transmit Data RxD 3 2 in - Receive Data RTS 4 7 out 1 Request To Send CTS 5 8 in 1 Clear To Send DSR 6 6 in 1 Data Set Ready GND 7 5 - - Signal Ground DCD 8 1 in 1 Data Carrier Detect DTR 20 4 out 1 Data Terminal Ready RI 22 9 in 1 Ring Indicator (CD light is off on the moment, but DCD is reported to be on) The same modems on a Windows machine work just fine. The cable works on the Windows machine too. I tried also a different machine but the same SuSE 9.0. Same result. wvdialconf does not detect anything on the serial port either. smpppd is not running, if it matters. No processes are using the port. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, -Kastus
