I ran redhat 5.0 for three weeks when it first came out. In SuSE the user has far more control over the install process for one thing, as well as a nicer selection of software to start out with. My problem with redhat, and in all fairness to redhat this is a glibc2 related problem and not a redhat flaw, is that hardly anything I wanted to compile would compile on it. Part of my loyalty to SuSE rests on the fact that the only thing that has given me a rough time compiling has been gnome. Now that I have cable I am going to download Debian2 just to try it, but I am so happy with SuSE I am more interested in test driving other unices like openbsd and netbsd than I am other distributions of linux. Hi There,
I Had nothing but troubles from Redhat 5.1 even when I got RedHat 5.0 to work I had one problem or another pop up ever few days with configuration. I have used SlackWare, RH, adn Debian. S.u.S.e blew my mind, after hearing it mentioned around the place I decided to grab a copy and I have to say, IT BLEW ME AWAY. Not only was it easier to install (in my opinion) than RH but it did not sacrifice performance or features. It retains the usability for newer user with the use of RH with the RPM format but still packs the same punch of more powerful distributions such as Debian and Slakware which are leaner and meaner than RH.
Mind you, I dont dis-lick RH, infact they are giving Linux a good name to the general public and I know more and more friends and collegues are talking about going to linux but in all honesty S.u.S.e has just soo many advantages and I feel that its installation is easier and more powerful that the RH pachages.
Cheers All Stephen Brennan
