Hello, I went through archive on the glibc2/StarOffice issue and I tried to take all of the postings into consideration while installing it, but still, the first installation screen would freeze.
First, I made sure that the older glibc, bundled with SuSE 5.3, was not installed. Then I run . ./soprep from the office installation directory, putting glibc2 into the Office default directory (opt/Office50/lib) Then I modified ld.co.conf to include the path above Then I run ldconfig. I even run SuSEconfig just in case Then I tried to run ./setup from office50_inst. The last message I'd see in the xterm window would be that the window manager didn't specify icon sizes, and the program would use default. Then the installation screen would come up and everything would freeze.
What is it that I'm omitting? I have high color on my display, could it possibly be because of that? I'd very much appreciate if someone would help me out.
Are you using a S3 Virge? If so there is a patch at www.stardivision.com to solve this problem. If you don't want to download the patch you can try the SVGA server.
