FWIW: I would probably replace the single WinNT PDC with a SuSE box. That should not require a great deal of effort. But, I would probably retain the other two, maybe upgrading them to Win2K or WinXP Pro. Once you have one converted, you might then consider migrating the second to Linux. The bottom line is, do whatever works. If the WinNT boxes are doing their jobs, there is no real reason to switch. Linux should handle the file and printer sharing duties quite nicely. On 28 Aug 2002 at 16:55, Koenraad Lelong wrote:
Hi, I think of reorganising my network. Now I'm using 3 WinNT servers, of which one is PDC. I would like to replace this PDC (does nothing more than file- & printsharing, although it is a DNS- and DHCP-server) with a SuSE-box. Unfortunately I can't replace the other WinNT-boxes. Is there an easy way to transfer all users/passwords from WinNT to Linux ? I know of winbind, but I never got it running properly on Samba 2.2.2. Is there an idial route to go (first do this, than do that, ...) ? I think of replacing the other boxes also (hardware, not software), so reinstalling WinNT is a possibility. Oh, the clients are all Windoze-boxes. Any opinions are appreciated. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong R&D Manager ACE electronics n.v.
