I was happy to see that oss finally released a beta driver for my sound card. I downloaded the demo version, and installed it without difficulty. However, it seems that I can only play CD's as root. When I log on as a normal user, I get the message:
CDROM read or access error. Please make sure you have access permissions to: /dev/cdrom
I checked permissions on the file and find the following:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 May 25 13:44 /dev/cdrom -> hdd
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this working? I'm running SuSE 6.1, using KDE.
Mandelbrot:~ # l /dev/hdd brw-rw---- 1 root disk 22, 64 Dec 11 18:21 /dev/hdd For security reasons, not everybody is allowed to read /dev/hdd (otherwise somebody would be able to read _anything_ if /dev/hdd happens to be a harddisk). Add the trusted accounts to the group "disk", but keep in mind that they are now allowed to read and write all devices including harddisks.
