1) So if no one moved files from /{bin,sbin,lib,lib64} --> their /usr equivs, what was the issue besides libblkid was on /usr? Wouldn't it be simpler and more compatible to move libblkid to /lib64?
There was 1 lib that mount needed that was on /usr. Because of that all files on root had to be moved to /usr?
In ten years closely working with Mandrake/Mandriva there were quite a few bugs resulting from someone mounting /usr as separate filesystem.
(remember, we are talking *boot-time* files
I missed my BT adapter on boot because it needed program to be started by udev rule to inform software stack that this adapter was present. Unfortunately this rule called program that needed libraries from /usr. This worked quite nicely for adapter you plug in after system is initialized. But I had built-in adapter which needs coldplpug. And device coldplug is executed quite early in *boot-time* sequence ...
What it looks like is systemd couldn't handle things from boot,
All those problems existed long before systemd was even invented. For specific configuration that you control 100% you can fix them. But we are speaking about generic distribution where we sometimes do not even control which software user installs. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
