i've never used courier imap server, but i'm sure it has one or probably more config. files. for dovecot, which i'm using, you have to specify which addresses & ports it's supposed to listen on, and which protocols it's going to support. what does your config say? normally you can also specify where log entries should be saved, in a separate file, or sent to syslog. after an unsuccessful login attempt, if courier was actually running, these logs should tell you something about the reason.
I suppose it has something to do with the susefirewall: some services i had to enable are not present in the list. looking at xinetd, imap is not toggled on, when i toggle on imap, yast react: pakg needs to be installed: imap (courier-imap is installed) i select install, nothing happens, just imap can't get installed, all services are locked, super server is disabled, I look at software management, and select imap, i get courier-imap installed.... This way, these services cannot be added to the firewall, i am forced to disable it. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...)
