I did an update on a SUSE 10.1 of kde on Sunday to the latest in the build service. KDE no longer runs. To be more specific:
I get X.
I get KDM.
I can use any window manager other than kde or gnome.
[...] Hi Roger
I had the same behavior after upgrading.
At least i found out, that the owner of the
~/..ICEauthority
was changed to root:root.
So the solution for you would be to
chown roger:users /home/roger/.ICEauthority
My file was (and still is):
-rw------- 1 roger users 724 2006-11-29 11:31 .ICEauthority
As the file is newer than the update, I expect that X has been using this all along without trouble.
This disappoints me a little, but ok ... then back to zero
Have you tryed to add a new(testing) user, to see if kde runs with a clean home directory ?
Not a new user. But I did try with a new .kde directory. I moved the existing one out of the way. I took longer to fail, so I guess it was populating the new .kde directory it made. So perhaps this is an indicator of it getting at least that far. I also deleted EVERYTHING in /tmp. No difference. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems AB Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O.
