[opensuse] problem with usb headset - does not work on skype, gotomeeting etc

On Leap15.1 - we have bought a number of Logitech H430 USB headsets, specifically for e.g. conf calls etc. I cannot get them to work Skype and gotomeeting. I have managed to make it work with arecord and aplay as long as I specify "-c 2", although playback only seems to work over the speaker. Playback works with skype/gotom, only the microphone doesn't. As the headset is technically okay, it is obviously a configuration issue.
