R & R (removing & reinstalling) didn't work because you removed the configuration editor, not the underlying data. ;-)
I don't think a 'wrinkle-free' multi-desktop Linux installation is possible or reasonable to expect. There will always be something minor needing attention. The "Add" button was beckoning you to get your feet a little wetter... (hint, hint & a very big grin!) Not a problem as such except the very detailed set of instructions indicated that the html Should have already been there. I was going to attempt an add but thought it worth asking first. In fact I vaguely remembered something today from a year or so back that one should really use Gnome once to allow it to fully set up even if using KDE full time. Thanks again for the tips. Roger
