This is my 3rd post of this. Someone please take a look and help me out.
I'll try, but I have never used gnome, so...
While I was making preparations to back up all my files, I logged into Gnome as root and ... everything was fine! All the issues I had logging in as me were gone when I logged in as root. So, as root, I created a new user and then I logged in as that user and everything was still fine. No issues with YaST, saving Quanta Docs or anything. So the question is .. why did this happen? How did my original user name get screwed up?
There are probably settings changed in one or more programs in gnome, which should be under .gnome. Try (as root, NOT logged in as the user in question) "mv .gnome gnome". Then, when you log in as your regular user, it will recreate this directory with default settings.
The second question is... I would like to transfer my ALL of my mail, accounts, and filters to the new user name.
No need, they should be under a different directory. They should all be there when you fix the gnome issues for your regular user.
What is the correct procedure for doing this? Also, I have old mail backed up on a CD from an evolution installation on Mandrake 9.1. I would like to import these values into the new user install as well.
