I would guess that the printer queeing package (lprold, lprng, cups, etc.) is using the port. You could try shutting it down and trying again. Also use lsof to find out which program is using /dev/parport0. I find it easier to run Samba and tell Windows to use a remote printer than switching back and forth with Linux or Windows having exclusive access to the parallel port. Hi.
I'm using suse 7.3, and VMware Workstation 3.0.
I try to setup the parallelport where my HP1100A is connected. Nothing else is connected to the port:
parport_pc 19280 1 parport 22240 1 [vmppuser lp parport_pc]
The parallel port supply in the kernel is set as module, and should be ok then.
When I boot Windows XP, I receive the following message:
"The "/dev/parport0" device is used by another program. Device parallel will start disconnected"
I then try to switch the parport ON after the booting of WIN98 XP, but I receive the same message.
Anybody that can tell me whats wrong ??.
