I installed SuSE 9.1 Professional on an external USB hard drive on my laptop (Dell Latitude C640) a few days ago. The install went relatively smoothly, but I am having a couple of problems (witch I will split into Multiple emails for simplifies sake). My laptop only came with USB 1.1, so I have a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card in it, which the USB hard drive is plugged into, the installer loaded the drivers for the card on it.s own, so the install went ok, but now I am having 2 problems: The first (and potentially unrelated) problem is that I can.t seem to create a boot floppy that works. I always get a grub error ****** at boot. I can boot the system by booting off CD 1, going to install system, then after selecting English language, saying boot installed system. As a follow up, is there anything special I need to do when creating the boot floppy, so that it has what it needs to boot off the PCMCIA card? My second problem is that it hangs on shutdown. My best guess is that it is trying to stop the PCMCIA card, and ether can.t because it is still using the disk and it freezes, or in stops the PCMCIA card, and then discovers it can.t write to the hard disk and freezes. Is there anything I can do it fix this? I realize that this is a very strange setup, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jesse
