If I want to start the software manager and nothing else I don't visit a web page. I click on the start menu, (bottom left of bar), choose 'computer', then 'install/remove software'.
Yes, when I am clicking on this, I think a window should come, where we can search our required s/w. But that window came for me only once 3 days back, though which I installed GVim. But after that lot's of click went on it, that window never came.. so I am depressed... :-)
So, it seems you don't have "yast2-metapackage-handler" installed. That has the one-click install handler code.
