My install of SuSE 9.1 has two ldap.conf files, one in /etc and one in /etc/openldap. Both appear to get used. ldapsearch, ldappasswd, etc., use /etc/openldap/ldap.conf. Renaming that file broke ldapsearch if no file was specified in the options. System authentication and services seem to use the one in /etc. I had to change that one to get ssh logins, etc. to contact a different server. Why are there two? Is there any reason one can't just be a symlink to the other? Thanks, Jason Joines =================================
