X Virtual Desktop Size (no SCO content)

Greetings, I'm posting this on behalf of a co-worker who recently installed SuSE 8.2 at home. He loves it except that his desktop is bigger than his display resolution. He hates having to scroll back and forth and up and down. I can't say that I blame him, either. I know this should be easy to fix, but I'm not sure what to look for in which X configuration file.
