UNIX and Linux have always been 'tool oriented'. I suspect that its the MS_windows influence that causes people to look for a 'product' (and a GUI product at that) when a few lines of shell, perl, or perhaps python or even ruby, would suffice. -- Business folks don't "respect" the technical folks because they think that the technical folks don't understand the "business" as well as the business folks do. Which might be true.
