[S.u.S.E. Linux] suse 5.2 headaches (kernel compile)

I have had a lot of trouble with recompiling the kernel under 5.2. Am I the only one?? The main reason I am recompiling is to enable ppp so I can connect to the internet. (this message ala win95 :-( Is it possible to install the kernel source from 5.1 into 5.2?? If so, just the lx_suse package?? I never had any problems with 5.1 compiling and I miss that!!
