OK. It works correctly for a new user. What do I need to do in my current user to clean things up?
Bob
first try to use firefox's own reset function: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems
if this does not help
close all firefox instances (check that there is really no firefox process running anymore: ctrl-esc and type firefox, kill it, if necessary)
rename ~/.mozilla/firefox/ to /.mozilla/myold.firefox/ (or thelike)
start firefox again, it will create e new, clean profile
Thanks Daniel. I've already discovered that. Using the Reset function under Help/Troubleshooting Information did the trick. All working as it should now.
