If it works in Ubuntu, on the Ubuntu box try browing to localhost:631 and check out the cups configuration there (i.e. the details of the print queue that cups is printing to). Then duplicate that via cups on the openSuSE box. You may need to point it to the ppd file installed by the Xerox software. localhost:631 asks for a username and password so I can't use that

I suspect that the Xerox software would recognise it if it was plugged directly into the USB port on the openSuSE host. Have you tried that? Get it working that way first (so you know it works), then setup the remote print queue in cups using the same driver. as a newbie, I don't follow what you said here "plug direclty into USBport on the openSUSE host."
Everything I try gives the same result. Failed to add printer. The config page shows IP as 192.168.1.103 and port 9100. Thanks again for your help.
