Just a note : I tried again reinstalling the OS and then gdm . But it again showed the same thing. So it seems like the gdm itself is broken (or not) , anyhow thanks all once again.
Full new install, formatting the hard disk, gnome default install? I don't see the need then to install gdm separately. it comes with the default installation. If that's not what you did, please clarify. (gdm works fine in all my machines. I never update gnome except from official sources - meaning: no OBS) - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
