Indeed, an 8 port "router" is a better idea, at home or small office, than a 4 port router and an 8 port switch - simply because it is a box less to care about. Fewer cables (ethernet cables, power cables, one more power socket used, perhaps one power splitter more). Actually the "4 (or 8) port router" is not an 4 port router.
