Hi openSUSErs,
Would like to know if somebody else is facing same problem as me attempting to install a rpm package from Firefox.
It is using Apper and Apper is using PackageKit that has a shim layer to libzypp (PackageKit-backend-zypp), and that one was source of many problems. In other words one needs all updates offered trough regular update channel. System is updated and KDE is Platform Version 4.9.4 "release 5". Not sure about Gnome side, though.
For example, trying to install a new version of VirtualBox by clicking on the rpm link, opens correctly Package Installer but the process fails to an error message stating that process has been interrupted by the user.
No issues here, but I'm patient with Apper and its shim layers :) It is slow process comparing to zypper. With only feedback in form of a completion bar indicator that stay at almost done for a while, users could be tempted to press Continue button more then once, which may bring "interrupted by the user". I can't know that as I was waiting for error to appear on its own, and VBox installation ended with success. With exception of well known downloads, like VBox, I don't use direct installation from the web, so I don't have another package to try. BTW, package is not really generic, it is for few openSUSE releases, but it is openSUSE, not "for rpm based distros" which usually means based on Fedora, and likely incompatible with SUSE. The one that you can find following Carl's suggestion, is OSS version with support for USB 1.1. In other words external USB drives will be very slow. I'm not aware of any other differences, and depending on your use case, that version could be all you need. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
